February, Heart Health Month

Throughout the month of February, Womankind and Zonta Club of Key West teamed for their annual  heart health and Healthy Blood Work Initiative. Women who are underinsured or uninsured were able to get their healthy blood work at no cost at Womankind. The funds to support this initiative were raised by the Zonta Club of Key West with support from the entire Key West and Lower Keys communities.

American Heart Month is federally designated to focus Americans on their hearts. The first event was held in 1964, at which time, half of all deaths in the U.S. were caused by cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke.1  Statistically, 2,300 Americans still die of cardiovascular disease each day, an average of 1 such death every 38 seconds. 1
